people meeting

Support groups are a fantastic way of getting to know local people with the same diagnosis. It is also a great opportunity for family and carers to gain more knowledge or speak to other carers in similar situations.

Support groups offer information on local events and often have guest speakers to present on specific topics. At Wide Bay Rehab we have presented to a number of local support groups on how Physiotherapy can help people with neurological conditions and disabilities. We have also provided free resources on exercise recommendations for specific conditions.

Below is a list of support groups in Bundaberg and Hervey Bay. If you know of any other groups please reach out to us and we are happy to add their information.

  • The STEPS Skills Program is open to all adults aged 18-65 years who have experienced an adult-onset Acquired Brain Injury and their family members.  This free 6-week structured group program provides an excellent opportunity for people to connect with others in their local community and develop strategies and skills to better manage with changes that have occurred in their life after brain injury.

The two parts of the program are:

  1. STEPS Skills Program – a 6 week group program, 2 hours each week to explore self-management skills following brain injury.  Some benefits may include being able to connect with others in a similar situation to yourself in your local area and strengthen skills in managing common difficulties after a brain injury or stroke.
  2. Ongoing Network groups – there are approximately 25 network groups across the state that provide an opportunity for members to meet usually once a month in a local community setting to catch up and socialise.  When and where the group meets is determined by members with assistance from the Network Group leader.
